Magnetite, Chromite & Serpentine (Self-find, Analyzed) | Acrylic Display
Magnetite, Chromite & Serpentine (Self-find, Analyzed) | Acrylic Display
Mounted on a custom acrylic display is a specimen of Magnetite, Chromite & Serpentine. This was another recent self-find of mine back in August, 2025 from Everson, Washington, USA.
I had an XRF completed by Excalibur Mineral Corp. to confirm the chemical composition of the specimen. The green matrix is Serpentine; the black inclusions are Magnetite and the metallic/glassy mineral in the vugs is Chromite (chromium ore)!
The specimen is permanently secured to the acrylic display base with a high quality silicon gel. The base in engraved on two sides with the following relevant information:
MAGNETITE, CHROMITE, SERPENTINE
Collected: 27 August, 2025
Locality: Whatcom County, Everson, Washington, USA
Serpentine
Mg3Si2O5(OH)4
Magnetite
Fe2+Fe3+2O4
Chromite
Fe2+Cr3+2O4
Specimen dimensions: 6.5 cm x 5 cm x 3 cm
Acrylic Display Dimensions: 5 cm x 2.5 cm
I'm excited to finally have another specimen that was personally collected to offer.
The last photo is of the original host rock before cracking it open. As you can see, the rock is very magnetic.
If requested; a copy of the chemical analysis will be included.
