Magnetite, Chromite & Serpentine (Self-find, Analyzed)| Mineral Display Box
Magnetite, Chromite & Serpentine (Self-find, Analyzed)| Mineral Display Box
Encased in an acrylic mineral display box is a specimen of Magnetite, Chromite & Serpentine. This was another recent self-find of mine back in August, 2025 from Everson, Washington, USA.
I had an XRF completed by Excalibur Mineral Corp. to confirm the chemical composition of the specimen. The green matrix is Serpentine; the black inclusions are Magnetite and the metallic/glassy mineral in the vugs is Chromite (chromium ore)!
The specimen is secured with mineral tack and could easily be removed, if desired. I've included a hand-written collection label on linen paper (recycling of my extraneous art prints) with the following information:
MAGNETITE, CHROMITE, SERPENTINE
Collected: 27 August, 2025
Locality: Everson, Mount Baker Mining District, Whatcom County, Washington, USA
Magnetite
Fe2+Fe3+2O4
Specimen dimensions: 5 cm x 3 cm x 1.5 cm
Acrylic Box Dimensions: 6 cm x 4 cm x 4 cm
I'm excited to finally have another specimen that was personally collected to offer.
The last photo is of the original host rock before cracking it open. As you can see, the rock is very magnetic.
